Acanthosis Nigricans:
A skin disease that is characterised by gray-black warty patches usually found under the arm pit or near the groin area.
Endometrium:
The mucous membrane that lines the uterus and is composed of three layers.
Gestational Diabetes:
An abnormal condition during pregnancy that is characterised by the secretion and excretion of excessive amounts of urine.
Insulin:
A protein hormone that is synthesised in the pancreas that is used to break down carbohydrates, lipids and proteins.
Pre-eclampsia:
A serious condition that develops in late pregnancy and is characterised by a sudden rise in blood pressure and excessive weight gain.
Thyroid Gland:
A gland that lies in the anterior base of the neck and produces hormones such as thyroxine.
Ultrasound:
Is a non-invasive technique used to look at 2D images within the womb.
